We chose Taj Kumarakom to unwind and escape from our fast-paced life. True to their website description, this resort beautifully integrates with the local wildlife—indeed, we saw more birds and wildlife here than at the nearby bird sanctuary! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed with refreshing coconut water and charming coconut garlands. Seamless check-in, escorted us to our room, and introduced us to the delightful "Chaykada" for evening tea. Our room was super spacious and centrally located, providing easy access to the front of the resort—where the front office, restaurant, and activities area are situated—as well as to the back, featuring the tranquil backwaters and Chaykada, the evening tea area. We later discovered that the late Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, had stayed in the same room during his visit to Kumarakom for medical treatment. Each morning began peacefully with the melodies of birds. Our days effortlessly flowed from swimming to a delicious breakfast, followed by badminton or cycling, rest, gym sessions, another swim, and dinner. We genuinely can't believe how quickly our week passed! The housekeeping team, activity team, wellness team, and restaurant team are awesome. Entertainment during Dinner was wonderful. While we enjoyed cycling or walking around the resort, we greatly appreciated the buggy service, which was always promptly available. It was truly difficult for us to leave this wonderful place, and we are already looking forward to returning soon! First of all, I want to mention Priya S. at the front office. She is just amazing. She is a great asset to the company and truly cares about here guests. And, if (or when) there are issues, she addresses them readily and proactively. Thank you for your wonderful help during our visit. And afterwards as well. Another person who I would mention is Mr Dinesh Varma, the General Manager of the hotel. He looked us out to make sure that our stay was comfortable and got things fixed readily when something was amiss. Thank you. As for the property, again, it is quite an amazing place. Being on Lake Vembanad and next to the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, it is a delight to be in the beautiful natural setting. The property was impacted badly during the worst flood in Kerala in nearly a century in August 2018. It was put back together, but really needs to be renovated to get to be the quality property it is and can be. In several dimensions, it needs significant modernization. We were told that an extensive renovation effort will start soon and the property should be truly World Class in the next year or two.

Where to begin? I didn’t know this hotel brand before I stayed there and now I want to go back to India and stay at their other properties. The grounds are absolutely lovely, with lakes & lagoons offering great opportunities to bird watch. The property is within 5 minutes distance from the Bird Sanctuary, which means you can observe many of them from your room, or just walking around! Bee-eaters, kites, kingfishers…we had to walk with our camera everywhere! The room we had was modeled from a traditional Kerala style cottage, split between 2 rooms, it was delightfully appointed, decorated and soundproofed. The outdoor/indoor shower area transformed a simple shower into a luxurious experience. The service was attentive and helped us select the most interesting activities and transfers. The restaurant is amazing (take everything from the Currymeen menu, not the other, if you want to experience the most delightful Kerala food!)

Beautiful and heavenly place with peace and tranquil surroundings. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I had specifically booked the heritage suites, in the original Baker's bungalow, but the reception staff was initially tried to offer me a sub standard private villa, but I protested. Front desk manager immediately resolved the issue and offered me the originally booked heritage suite. It was a great. Facilities were top class. Food was delicious and exceptional. Spa and massage facilities were amazing..i had a foot massage by a masseur name by Imran from North East state of Manipur, who was very good and professional. That massage was one of the best I have had. Highly recommend the spa facilities. Would like to return.

Ramesh

The property itself is super beautiful. Just feels lovely to walk through the property across the various tiny bridges and gardens with many perfect spots to click a lot of pictures. The food was excellent and the chef was very attentive to any of the special needs we had. The property itself has a lot of activities. We enjoyed the pool and the spa services which I would highly recommend. The staff was extremely friendly and courteous, special mention of Vishal, Neetu and Gayathri at the reception who always assisted us with a smile. Would recommend a stay of atleast 2-3 nights and pace the activities over the various days.
